If you have travelled to or transit in any of the affected countries and returned on or after 22 June, you are to stay at home on Leave of Absence (LOA) for the next 7 calendar days. Please inform your Civics tutor if you cannot come to school when term starts

4) You are required to take your temperature TWICE in the 1st week of Term 3.
5) There will be NO morning assembly.

Firstly, half the year has passed in a whizzy... and its been a great time with all of you. :D

Secondly, homework. Sorry I have to be a holiday destroyer, but its better that you know. Right? ;P

1. LA homework - Prepare for essay, read Coraline and post questions on wikispaces (for more info, ask JANE!)

2. Mathematics - Remainder and Factor Theorem (part 1); those who want remedial pls contact Mr Woo. Recommended to be 3 people together or more.

3. Literaure - Select a poem you like and give a 100 word explanation on why you like it

4. Mother Tongue - I dunno... do your cheena thing, i guess.

Thirdly, review test time.

However, Mercy Relief will still continue to engage volunteers (that's you) for a streets collection at Little India on 17 May. Here are the details:

Reporting place: Little India Shopkeepers & Heritage Association ( LISHA)

Address : 48 Serangoon Road #02-16, Little India Arcade.

Timing : 9 to 1pm, 1pm to 5pm

We can meet at Little India MRT first before proceeding to the reporting place as it is a small office.

Please reply me as soon as possible if you still willing to come down on 17 May to Little India OR/AND you would prefer to do at the original location that you have chosen on 24 May (Sunday as well).

Hi Victorians!
International Year of Astronomy has come! (IYA2009)
400 years ago, Galileo made the first astronomical observation through a telescope. It is also the anniversary of many milestones in the history of astronomy, including the publishing of Kepler’s Astronomia Nova, human’s landing on the Moon, etc.
As part of this great global celebration, Singapore Science Centre is organizing various events for the public, such as the weekly Star Gazing Session at their Observatory.
In order to give insights into astronomy to Victorians, VJC Astrophysics Society is organizing a trip to Singapore Science Centre to join their weekly Star Gazing Session on 22nd May (Fri) 2009 from 7:50pm to 10:00pm. One Way transport would be provided.

Mercy Relief, together with Community Involvement Council will be organizing a Streets Collection on 17 May (Sunday) to help raise funds for the relief for Sri Lanka.

There will be 3 shifts:

9 to 12pm , 12pm to 3pm, 3pm to 6pm

and 5 locations:

- Openfield next to Tampines Mall/ MRT

- Jurong East MRT

- Yishun MRT

- Little India MRT

- Lavander MRT

for this streets collection.

We need your help to make a difference to the lives of the victims in Sri Lanka. You can sign up by simply replying to this email with your Name, Class, Contact no., email address, the shift* and the location you want to do or by writing these details on the sign up forms avaliable in the canteen. CIP hours will be awarded.

If you are still not convinced to create a meaningful Sunday for yourself, please read on!

Below is a message from Mercy Relief:

Dear humanitarian comrade,

The ongoing armed conflict in Sri Lanka has left over 170,000 lives displaced, dehydrated, traumatised, hungry and sick. More than 30% of these victims are children aged less than 5. Many are starving, malnourished and anemic.

Sri Lanka has made an appeal for international humanitarian assistance. United Nations Under-Secretary General John Holmes recently visited the temporary camps and met with the civilian victims. The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) said that conditions at the temporary camps for the people fleeing the conflict zone are reaching breaking point.

Mercy Relief has obtained a fundraising permit from the Commissioner of Charities to raise funds from 3 May – 7 June 09 for the above cause. We seek to raise $200,000 for the relief efforts.

A preliminary relief team will leave for Sri Lanka on 6 May to provide the first batch of supplies comprising food, pediatric medicines and supplements, and water bowsers to facilitate the supply of clean and potable water to the displaced victims, and in tandem, assess further needs on the ground. A second relief team has been placed on standby to support the prelim team if the situation warrants.

We trust you will once again be Mercy Relief’s partner to help cushion the pains of the innocent and vulnerable.

Chemistry Class Test

This is the class test on Chem which has been going wild for quite some time now. I know some of you don't check your VJC emails, so here is what Mr Teo briefed on in an email:

Some of you have been enquiring about the test, that according to the schedule, is happening next week.

Please note that the test will happen during your 5th Chem period for the week, not during the test period.

It is just a 30 min short quiz intended to encourage you to build up your familiarity on chemical symbols and chemical formulae, the language that will help you much as we go further in our study of Chemistry. =).

Do know the symbols of the first 20 elements well, as well as how to write chemical formulae when given the chemical name of a substance and also how to do the opposite.

The first 2 periods for the week will be on the set of notes on chemical symbols and formulae. Remember to fill up the symbols till the table at the top of page 5 before you come to class.

The next 2 periods will be the continuation of your presentations for the separation experiments if your class is not done yet.

The last period or the week is reserved for the test.

2nd last day of orientation I felt hyper hyper. Wa, all our OGLs ensured we drunk at least one gulp of RED BULL!!! Yea, it rox. So I drunk 2 cans :O. Anw, I juz looked at the VJC photography society's flickr page. They said they'll b adding alot of pics today and tmrw. But until now, I only have one photo which has V15 in it. Its ORIN!!! (Anw, congrats Orin on geting 1st :))

LOL. Yea, I am gonna get into quite alot of trouble for this. So please pray for me. ;P.
